We drove out Saturday with nothing planned beyond “see the ocean.” Got there by 2, walked north, had clam chowder at the place we always go to, walked south, waited for the light.

I always take the same sunset photos and I don’t mind. The horizon isn’t going to do anything you haven’t seen before, but the small things — the way light moves across wet sand over thirty seconds, the birds that show up for the last ten minutes — those are different every time. That’s what I was there for.

Got back to the car as the cold hit. Drove home in the dark with the heater on.
