Rented a macro lens from the shop down the street for Friday through Monday, mostly to see whether I’d want to buy one. Spent the weekend at a 1:1 reproduction ratio, mostly pointed at food.
Verdict: I’d use a macro lens maybe once every two months. I’m not going to buy one. But it was a great weekend for looking at things. Macro photography is a kind of meditation; the depth of field is so shallow that you spend a lot of time adjusting your breath and just looking at the thing you’re photographing. Good for a Sunday.
Also: every surface in your kitchen is more interesting than you think it is.
