Blogs I read when they update. If you’re short on good technical writing in your RSS reader, start here.

These aren’t ranked. I’ve tried to keep it short enough that I can actually vouch for every entry.

Julia Evans — jvns.ca
The platonic ideal of "explain a thing clearly." I aspire to write one post half as good as her average.
Dan Luu — danluu.com
Long-form, research-heavy posts that make you feel smarter when you're done reading.
Xe Iaso — xeiaso.net
Opinionated, personal, fun. Anubis is on a lot of my servers because of them.
Hillel Wayne — hillelwayne.com
Formal methods, software engineering as a discipline, and the occasional linguistics detour.
Tyler Cipriani — tylercipriani.com
Mostly about git, release engineering, and Wikimedia, but everything is good.
Drew DeVault — drewdevault.com
I don't agree with every take but the posts make me think. The sr.ht project has shaped how I think about small, well-scoped tools.
Jim Nielsen — jim-nielsen.com
Shorter posts on the web as a platform. Pairs well with morning coffee.
Simon Willison — simonwillison.net
Relentless pace, consistently useful. His TILs are a model I try to steal from.
Rachel Andrew — rachelandrew.co.uk
CSS deep dives. I don't touch frontend often but when I do I check here first.
Saurabh Kumar — saurabh.dev
Systems-y notes on Linux, observability, and the occasional war story.
Thorsten Ball — thorstenball.com
The "Writing an Interpreter in Go" author. Short essays on craft.
Paul McKellar — paulmckellar.com
Small engineering notes from someone who has seen a lot of startups.
Dave Rupert — daverupert.com
Thoughtful notes on the web and building on it without losing your mind.
Brandur Leach — brandur.org
Postgres, Stripe stories, and the kind of infrastructure writing that's rare on the web.
Amy Hoy — stackingthebricks.com
Not technical. About work, products, and doing your own thing. Good antidote to Twitter.

How I find new ones

Mostly by noting who gets linked to three or four times in a year. I try to purge entries I haven’t enjoyed in a while; this list updates a few times a year.
